Job Description Summary
A postdoctoral research scholar position in theoretical and computational chemistry is available in the Ding group in the Department of Chemistry at Wake Forest University (https://chemistry.wfu.edu/people/faculty/wendu-ding/). Under minimal supervision, the scholar is expected to perform theoretical and computational research in the areas of polariton chemistry and/or electrochemistry. The scholar should have the ability to develop new computational methods, or utilizing existing ones, to study energy transfer or charge transfer dynamics in complex environments, such as in colloid systems or at electrolytes-electrode interfaces.

Job Description
Essential Functions:
- Develop new theory or computational methods, or utilize existing methods, to study energy transfer or charge transfer in complex environments.
- Implement appropriate methods through programing for use in high performance cluster.
- Maintains accurate and complete records of research, including laboratory notebooks and digital data records.
- Author articles for publication in scientific journals.
- Provide research guidance to undergraduate and graduate students in the group.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
- Ph.D. (awarded or pending in near future) in Theoretical or Computational Chemistry, or related fields.
- Knowledge of the principles in any of the following: quantum electrodynamics, statistical mechanics, quantum mechanics, reaction kinetics.
- Ability to utilize and/or quickly learn to utilize any of the following: quantum mechanical simulations (such as DFT), molecular dynamics simulations, finite-difference time domain method for classical electrodynamics simulations (or other numerical simulations), etc.
- Skills of coding in any well-accepted programing language, such as Python, C++, Fortran, etc.
- Ability to solve problems in the performance of the simulations.
- Ability to interpret/extract physical meanings from the results of the simulations.
- Strong communication skills (written required).
- Ability to work effectively in a group as part of the team.
- Ability to work with minimal supervision using the above knowledge and skills.
Preferred Education, Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:
- Research experience in theoretical and computation chemistry with a focus in polariton chemistry, or electrochemistry, or exciton dynamics.
- Knowledge and ability in code parallelization.
- Have good documentation skills.
- Responsible for own work.
- Provide training and assist in the supervision of graduate and undergraduate students in the group.
