Open Rank Assistant, Associate, or Full Professor, General Faculty (Teaching Track): Administration & Supervision
The University of Virginia School of Education and Human Development (EHD) seeks an open-rank academic general faculty member for the position of Professor of Education. This is a 12-month salaried appointment in the Department of Leadership, Foundations, and Policy (EDLF), with a contract start date in May or August 2023. We seek an individual who demonstrates innovative teaching, experience in school and division-level leadership and academic advising, and practitioner focused scholarship. Applicants should demonstrate a commitment to ideals of leadership, equity, adult learning, and continuous improvement. Given that most of the teaching responsibilities for this position occur online, the incumbent will not be required to relocate to the Charlottesville area. However, the incumbent will be required to engage in occasional in-person instruction and service commitments.
The Administration and Supervision program prepares the next generation of educational leaders through two degree programs. The M.Ed. leading to administrative endorsement is offered online with in-person summer residencies and in partnership with school divisions throughout the state. The Ed.D. is offered in a cohort-based executive format that includes online and face-to-face classes with some weekend sessions, building a learning community among a selective group of experienced educators from across the region.
The successful candidate for this position will be an experienced educator and an excellent instructor who will teach in both programs, mentoring Ed.D. students through their culminating capstone work and serving as a faculty advisor for both the M.Ed. and Ed.D. programs. In addition, successful candidates will have experience with building and maintaining partnerships with schools and contributing to the development of leadership preparation programs. Duties as a faculty member in the School of Education and Human Development include engagement in faculty governance, service to the broader community, and offering service as well as taking the lead in forming partnerships at the departmental, school, university, governmental, and/or community level. Load is set annually between the department chair and the faculty member consistent with the school’s load planning policy.
The School of Education and Human Development offers a rich intellectual and collaborative environment for the preparation, development, practice, and impact of educational leaders. Opportunities for collaboration, partnership, and research are available through the K-12 Advisory Council, a 106-district outreach initiative sponsored by the School of Education; the iLEAD partnership with a K-12 school district (an improvement science initiative with the Carnegie Foundation); and preparation partnerships with Virginia school divisions. Several well-established research centers at the School of Education and Human Development offer additional collaboration and research opportunities in educational policy, the quality of teaching and learning, and adolescent development and well-being (EdPolicyWorks, CASTL, and Youth-Nex, respectively). The Darden-Curry Partnership for Leaders in Education offers sustained professional learning for district-level leaders to implement systemic change.
