Job Summary

The student technical writer is responsible for ensuring that documentation is prepared and fully encapsulates the customers' requirements so that our developers can create code that meets the need.

University Faculty Information & Support ( UFIS) is an in-house software team within The University of Utah network. We strive to provide innovative platforms for data collection for university reporting purposes. Our team is dedicated to building systems that are useful, usable, and efficient.

Responsibilities
  • Assisting in creating software requirements documentation based on user discussions.
  • Collaborating with the team to ensure clear and actionable requirements.
  • Updating existing documentation to ensure accuracy and timeliness.
  • Developing user-friendly documentation, including how-to guides and instruction manuals.
  • Simplifying technical ideas to make them easily understandable for our target audience.
  • Supporting Product Managers in maintaining accurate and up-to-date documentation.
  • Participating in customer meetings to gather technical specifications.
  • Ensuring timely publication of change logs and feature announcements.
  • Contributing to tutorials and training sessions on the application of technical documents.

Preferences
  • Strong interest in technical writing, information systems, or related fields.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Familiarity with standard concepts and practices in the field, gained through coursework or internships.
