JOB SUMMARY/ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: The Patient Accounts Specialist administers the comprehensive patient treatment schedule daily at the Kingsport Dental Clinic of the Appalachian Highlands. This position provides coordination of patient scheduling, insurance and payor benefits, eligibility, and pre-authorization checks. This position maintains routine business office functions.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Answers multi-line phone systems to render insight to current and prospective patients.
  2. Manages the patient scheduling system for dental clinic including students, residents, and faculty.
  3. Registers new and existing patients into the clinic database including medical history, HIPAA agreement, insurance, and TennCare benefit and eligibility verification with deductible and co-payments.
  4. Communicates and triage patient concerns for urgent problem-focused evaluation appointments.
  5. Prepares 3rd party payor claims on daily basis while posting payments to patient accounts.
  6. Prepares and posts daily productivity reconciliation reports for collections for deposit according to guidelines.
  7. Monitors and manages all front office operations and functions.
  8. Sends and receives treatment referrals and/or consults and imports information into clinic software.
  9. Assists in any clinical position due to staff shortage or high-level patient care in areas of sterilization, patient processing, and student assistance.
  10. Performs other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications :

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

EDUCATION: High School Diploma orGED. (TRANSCRIPT REQUIRED)

EXPERIENCE: Four (4) years of experience in a dental office/clinic as a dental assistant, front desk, or hygienist.Must maintain registration as a licensed dental assistant in the State of Tennessee. Nitrous Oxide Monitoring and Radiology Certification are required. Must maintain CPR certification. (PROOF OF LICENSURE IS REQUIRED)

LICENSE/CERTIFICATION: A Registered Dental Assistant (RDA) in the State of Tennessee, with certification in radiology and nitrous oxide monitoring, is required. (PROOF OF LICENSURE IS REQUIRED)

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
  • Knowledge of basic computer data entry, office software, operations, business functions and execution.
  • Knowledge of basic dental treatments, terminology, and delivery of dental care.
  • Familiarity with basic dental insurance processes, 3rd party payors, TennCare and Current Dental Terminology (CDT).
  • Strong, professional, and effective communication skills.
  • Ability to work effectively with a diverse population and community of patients and a desire to be a team member striving to deliver quality dental health care.
  • Ability to gather data, compile information, and statistics to prepare reports for internal and external use.
  • Detail-oriented, organized with the ability to prioritize work while multi-tasking.


WORK SCHEDULE: This position may occasionally be required to work weekends.
