Responsibilities include:• Providing resume writing assistance to students.• Conducting mock interviews and interview workshops.• Administering and maintaining internship and program guidelines for both student and employer participants. • Coordination with the registrar’s office and financial aid, to ensure that university policies are being followed.• Engagement with the FHC student council and general FHC student body. • Maturity and sensitivity are required to handle complex and sensitive situations involving students and employers in the work environment.• Job development, visiting company sites, and marking the program to students are also critical components of the position. • Educating students on the difference between paid internships and for-credit internship, helping students decide on the best options for their career development, including offers in the decision-making process, connecting students with current opportunities, and providing follow up assistance to employers in the recruiting timeframe.• Counseling students more formally on their professional development path. This includes expanding Alumni programming to assist in student professional development and providing connections for current students.• Meet with students individually to assist in their experiential learning search process, present internship prep programs to FHC students, partner with other FHC units, the Career Center, and other entities on campus. • Continually seek new regional, national, and international opportunities for students. • Partner with academic and research departments to capture information on existing internships, research, lab, and other experiential learning positions. • Identify existing opportunities within the university with the potential to convert to internships. • Track experiential learning and Internship program data. • Represent the University to alumni, employers, and students in a professional manner. • Responsibility to manage our flagship internship programs including the David C. Frederick Internship and the William J. Keefe Congressional Fellowship.Other David C. Frederick Honors College tasks as assigned.Bachelor’s degree required. Preferred candidates will have current graduate work or experience in higher education, student affairs, or a related field. Excellent communication and presentation skills are required. Previous internship or experiential learning experience is preferred. Familiarity with database creation and management is a plus. General knowledge of the University and businesses in the Pittsburgh region and international sector is beneficial.
Job Summary
Develops and executes complex, comprehensive community engagement plans. Plans logistics for community events and maintains a continual presence. Collaborates to develop engagement workflow integration strategies and community event calendars. Provides training and mentoring and tracks the impact of engagement efforts. Engages in fundraising, creates informational and marketing materials, and assists in maintaining a database.
Essential Functions
The David C. Frederick Honors College (FHC) supports roughly 3,000 students, and therefore we are seeking an Internships Coordinator to provide support to the office of Community Engagement in the FHC. This position reports to the Director of Community Engagement. The incumbent will be responsible for the successful internship placement of student participants in companies that are local, national, and international in scope, and to ensure the satisfaction of both employer and students leading to a quality and robust internship program. The development of internships also includes employer development for career placement opportunities.
