Job Description

The School of Education, Social Work, and Psychologial Sciences at the University of Missouri-Kansas City is continuously seeking qualified candidates for adjunct faculty teaching positions.

The Division offers coursework in educational leadership, educational foundations, and educational research at the masters and doctoral levels. THE INTENT OF THIS ANNOUNCEMENT IS TO IDENTIFY A POOL OF ADJUNCT FACULTY WHO ARE QUALIFIED TO DELIVER GRADUATE LEVEL COURSES IN THE DIVISION OF EDUCATIONAL LEADERSHIP, POLICY AND FOUNDATIONS.

Responsibilities of UMKC Part-time Faculty Members

1.Create and maintain civil, inclusive and engaging learning environments

2. Deliver curriculum through high quality course instruction

3. Assess student learning of course objectives
  • Use a variety of evaluation methods
  • Use the early alert system to identify students at risk of failing, when applicable (UMKC Connect)
  • Provide students with prompt, objective, fair feedback on their work
  • Assign grades and maintain student records in accordance with university policy
4. Adhere to and model university standards of professionalism

5. Be accessible to students for conferences / consultations

6. Engage in critical self-reflection and professional development

Qualifications

Appropriate degree for the level of class being taught

Experience/training relevant to the content area being taught

Demonstrated understanding of and commitment to urban issues

Licensure or certification, if applicable

Preferred Qualifications

Previous experience teaching at the university level
  • Familiarity with various online management systems (e.g., Canvas)
Anticipated Hiring Range

A flat adjunct salary is determined based on level of education and number of courses being taught

Transcripts reflecting the highest degree earned and any other degree that may be relevant for the course assignment are required before final hire.

Unofficial transcripts may be submitted initially, but OFFICIAL transcripts are required for hire (see below).

Adjunct faculty teaching in the School of Education, Social Work, and Psychological Sciences are responsible for teaching regular courses as assigned by the Division Chairperson.

Appointment

These are term, non-tenure-accruing positions. Appointment periods are for the semester with consideration for reappointment.
