Physical Requirements

The physical requirements of this position include: occasionally lifting, pushing, and/or pulling objects weighing up to 50 lbs.; occasionally standing or walking with objects weighing up to 10 lbs.; regularly sitting at a computer workstation for extended periods of time and performing tasks with regular repetitive motions (such as typing); occasionally interacting with combative/violent people or patients; and occasional job-related travel (less than 10% of time)

Shift

Monday through Friday; 8:00am – 5:00pm. As an exempt-level position, some additional nights, evenings, and/or weekends may be required in order to meet job and departmental business needs.

Job Summary

The Billing Compliance Officer will assist the Office of Corporate Compliance ( OCC) in overseeing the billing compliance auditing plan for the clinical activity at the University of Kentucky. Activities will include enterprise oversight of physician/provider audit plans, auditing and analysis of code assignments, oversight of related educational material and training sessions, direct supervision of the Compliance Reimbursement Audit Manager, and providing additional leadership to the Audit Team.

This Billing Compliance Officer position, reporting to the Assistant Chief Compliance Officer, will be responsible for developing the annual UK HealthCare Billing Compliance Audit plan; researching topics, issues, and questions presented by staff and faculty; proactively seeking information on current compliance issues including OIG special fraud alerts and changes in applicable laws and policies; performing concurrent and retrospective audits as identified in the annual audit plan; preparing detailed reports to present to the Chief Compliance Officer, Assistant Chief Compliance Officer, and the Compliance Committee; and conducting training for faculty and staff regarding audits and other compliance topics.

This is a hybrid position.

Skills / Knowledge / Abilities

The ideal candidate will possess the CPMA credential in addition to the COC, and/or RHIT, and/or CPC certifications, and a strong understanding of complex requirements and regulations related to healthcare compliance. This candidate will also have a high ethical standard; the ability to work in a team-based collaborative environment; a high level of communication and leadership skills; effective business writing, creative thinking and data analysis skills; and proficiency in Microsoft Office.

Preferred Education/Experience

A Bachelor's degree and at least 9 full years of employment experience in healthcare coding and documentation compliance, and knowledge/analysis of the complex requirements for a large healthcare enterprise.
