School Health Coordinator and Educator
The School of Nursing at the UNC Greensboro is seeking a School Health Coordinator and Educator for a full-time position which will be based at the Moss Street Partnership School (MSPS) in Reidsville, NC. The position is designed to include coordination of school health at the Moss Street Partnership School five days a week (by the traditional Rockingham County school calendar), education of MSPS students, student families, faculty, staff and UNCG students, precept UNCG undergraduate students, serve as liaison with the community and facilitate the development of a future school-based health center. In addition to coordinating the school health program, the person will provide direct student/patient care and student/patient education. Work hours are Monday-Friday 7:30 AM-3:30 PM with occasional evenings and weekends. Salary will be commensurate with experience and credentials. This position will be a 10-month employee.
- Providing school health services that may include but are not limited to a) training staff and faculty in first aid, medical emergency response, and prevention strategies; b) providing first aid, c) medication administration, d) environmental safety, e) referrals to other professionals and organizations, f) health assessment and minor illness sick child care, g) providing health education programs, and h) providing communicable disease prevention and other activities including immunizations as needed
- Developing, implementing, and evaluating policies, procedures and standards for school health program and community engagement consistent with federal, state and local laws and standards in collaboration with medical director
- Precepting/teaching undergraduate students
- Performing School, University, and community service
- Attending appropriate meetings with MSPS faculty and staff and School of Nursing faculty
- Providing direct student health care 5 days per week based upon Rockingham County School Schedule
- Preparing health reports for supervisor, Board of Education, Department of Public Instruction and Health Department
- Collaborating with and liaison with community agencies in supporting the school health program
- Maintaining security of school records
- Maintaining inventory of school health equipment and supplies including equipment function/warranty/repair, ordering medical supplies, and security of supplies and equipment
- Communicating with and education of parents, guardians and health care providers on health needs of children
- Providing follow-up evaluations of students, as required
- Conducting home visits when appropriate
- Conducting health fairs
- Facilitating the development of the future school-based health center
