Payroll Specialist

Our payroll clientele has grown by leaps & bounds so we need an extra set of hands. The position will be 40 hours per week with some flexibility in scheduling and benefits.

The ideal candidate for this position is a skilled multi-tasker, reliable, and is committed to assisting our clients. This position is 80% payroll related with bookkeeping services to fill in.

Payroll Specialist job duties include, but are not limited to:

Daily payroll operations for small business clients.

Setting up QuickBooks files for new clients, applying for government entity payroll accounts, and setting up access to EFTPS, MN Dept. of Revenue, and MN Unemployment.

Processing employee data (new hires, changes, etc.)

Processing time and attendance data into a payroll format.

Prepare and submit paper payroll checks and initiate direct deposit.

Process correct garnishment calculations and compliance.

Process child support deductions and payments.

Reconcile payroll prior to transmission and validate confirmed reports.

Pay and reconcile liability payments.

Manage workflow to ensure payroll transactions are processed accurately and timely.

Understand proper taxation of employer paid benefits.

Prepare accurate and timely monthly and assist our Payroll Assistant with quarterly & year end reporting.

A qualified candidate should have:

High school diploma/GED

Basic knowledge of bookkeeping concepts and/or payroll best practices

At least one year payroll department experience

Strong math skills

Proficiency in Microsoft Office & Excel

QuickBooks experience is preferred.

Strong attention to detail

Ability to deal sensitively with confidential information.

Ability to be a team player while possessing strong communication skills.

Organization and prioritizing skills are a must.

Ability to operate general office equipment (fax, printers, etc.)

Pay will be based on experience and skill level. We start our employees out at $15.00 per hour. However, if we see that you have what we need to get the job done proficiently, the owner has no problem with raising that pay rate. We have a 90-day probationary period and at that time your performance will be assessed, and a pay raise could be given at that time. Also, if you are hired, we will as a sign-on bonus, 40 hours of paid vacation (PTO), that can be used after the probationary period is over.
