Library Intern - Youth Services
- GENERAL DESCRIPTION
Performs professional library work in the Children’s and Young Adult Departments of the Library. Shadows, assists and collaborates with Library staff. Works independently on projects under direct supervision. Successful candidate must provide all school paperwork requirements to obtain appropriate credit. All interested applicants must comply with Roanoke County requirements.
- ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
- Shadows the Children's Divisional Librarian, the Young Adult Divisional Librarian, and the Senior Branch Librarian.
- Assists with programs and planning system-wide projects.
- Assists with core library tasks such as shelving, fulfilling holds, and other circulation duties.
- Assists with providing customer service to patrons at service points.
- REQUIREMENTS/PREFERENCES
Education
Required: Bachelor’s degree and currently enrolled and pursuing a master’s degree in library science from an ALA accredited degree program.

Certifications/ Licenses
Must possess a valid Virginia driver's license and have a good driving record.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities- Some knowledge of cataloging and collections through coursework or in progress coursework preferred.
Additional Requirements
Subject to a complete criminal history background with acceptable results. Must be able to perform the job as described in the Physical and Environmental Demands section of this job description.
Must be enrolled in an ALA accredited MLS program.
