Assistant Director of Residential Life
Ohio Wesleyan University is a selective, private, undergraduate liberal arts, residential institution founded in 1842 and located just 20 miles north of Columbus, is seeking candidates for the position of Assistant Director of Residential Life. This is a salaried, full time position.

Because we are a residential college, The Department of Residential Life at Ohio Wesleyan University plays an important role in our campus community. Our new residential curriculum is beginning to transform the residential experience into a more meaningful and impactful part of the OWU environment, and our new senior apartment building and first-year student residence hall allows us to support our students with intentionality. While we just completed Phase I or our residential renewal plan, we are now beginning to explore Phase II. Job Summary:
The Assistant Director of Residential Life is responsible for supporting the day-to-day operations of Residential Life and fostering an organization that provides service excellence to students, parents, and University partners. The Assistant Director is also responsible for the housing selection and assignment process, the management of the housing software, and occupancy management. This position will work collaboratively with campus partners across the University to enhance the residential experience, especially as it pertains to the residential curriculum. Additionally, the Assistant Director will serve as a Title IX Investigator/Resolution Panel member and support alcohol education and bystander intervention training, for which they will report to the Director of Student Conduct and Community Standards.
Responsibilities and duties:
- Oversee the housing selection and assignments processes; ensuring accurate data input and student billing, and justifying information between PowerCampus and THD.
- Manage the central office, which includes liaising with Administrative Assistant for the Vice President of Student Engagement and Success and the supervision of student office assistants.
- Assist in the development and management of the Residential Curriculum, and work to enhance collaboration across campus to support it and our theme communities.
- Develop and implement an assessment strategy aimed at addressing the needs of students and cultivating a department committed to continuous improvement.
- Manage the THD housing software and identify opportunities to further integrate housing processes.
- Assist the Director in managing the day-to-day operations of the Department, and serve as back-up to the Director when necessary.
Factors contributing success:
- A Master’s degree in Student Personnel, Higher Education, Counseling, or a related field.
- A minimum of 3 years of related professional experience demonstrating progressive responsibilities within Housing and Residence Life.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills are essential to this position, along with the ability to solve complex, multifaceted problems. Collaboration is key to the success of the department, so the ability to work collaboratively and cooperatively with colleagues is important.
- Experience with a residential curriculum, and either Adirondack THD or Star Rez are preferred qualifications.
