Research Professor, FIA Analyst
The Department of Forestry and Environmental Resources invites applications for a 12-month, professional track (non-tenure track) Assistant or Associate Research Professor. The primary responsibility is performing and reporting national assessments of forest ecosystem health. To accomplish this, the incumbent will serve as the technical coordinator, editor, and have collaborative decision-making responsibility on technical and research aspects in the production of national forest health assessments.
The incumbent will prepare research proposals, work plans, and conduct research in landscape ecology, quantitative forest ecology, and applied statistics. The research will include extending existing theory, developing and applying appropriate analytical techniques, testing hypotheses, reporting results in a suitable venue, and implementing new findings in national assessments.
Secondary responsibilities of the incumbent include technology transfer, graduate student advising, and teaching a professional or technical course to be agreed upon with the Department Head.
Requirements
- Ph.D. degree in forestry, natural resources, forest ecology, forest health or a related discipline.
- Experience relevant to forest health or forest science.
- Ability to manage multiple tasks successfully
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
- Experience in team-oriented research groups, both as a team leader and a team member
- Demonstrated ability to publish research in scientific journals
Preferred Qualifications
- Proficiency in spatial analyses in ArcGIS Desktop or ArcGIS Pro
- The ability to apply various kinds of analyses to a variety of natural resource problems such as insect and disease distribution, fire, and land use
- Experience in writing proposals for external funding and managing budgets
- Training or experience in promoting diversity, equity, and inclusion
