Position Summary:
Monmouth University invites applications for the tenure-track position of Assistant Professor of Geography (specialization in Geographical Information Systems) to begin Fall 2024.
Candidates should have a terminal degree in geography or GIS in hand, or ABD with evidence that degree will be completed before the beginning of the Fall 2024 semester. At Monmouth, the Geography and GIS programs are situated in the Department of History & Anthropology.

The successful candidate will teach introductory and advanced courses in GIS, spatial data & analysis, remote sensing, and GIS applications to other disciplines. They will assume the roles of A) director of the undergraduate GIS minor and graduate GIS certificate programs, and B) university cartographer, working not only with established partners such as the Urban Coast Institute and the School of Science, but with new partners in the social sciences.

The course load is 3/3 for faculty members on the tenure track. Given the program leadership role associated with this position, the successful candidate will receive a 3-credit per year teaching reduction (a 3/2 course load). The successful candidate will demonstrate a strong commitment to teaching, mentoring and academic advising, and promoting the study of geography to students.

The duties of the position include pursuing a scholarly agenda in research and publishing, and participating fully in the life of our academic community though departmental and University service.

This is an in-person, on-campus, non-remote position.

Doctoral degree, ABD candidates may be considered with degree completion expected by date of employment

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience with Remote Sensing Technologies
  • Ability to teach remote sensing.
  • Ability to generate grants.
  • Experience in developing GIS programs and teaching GIS and mapmaking.
