Job Description

In this full-time position the candidate will research, test and compile improved metallurgical methods and materials to enhance the manufacturing landscape in the state. Collaborate with researchers and industry partners to identify areas for improvement and develop projects to address these concerns.
  • Perform metallurgical testing and analysis in a laboratory and perform fieldwork outdoors.
  • Develop optimal chemistries for different alloys to meet requirements.
  • Participate in activities related to alloy development and process optimization in order to ensure that finished products meet necessary properties for various applications.
  • Utilize machining and welding equipment as required by the job.
  • Collect, analyze and document the data collected; identify new products and opportunities through targeted research; and study characteristics and behaviors of various metals.
  • Conduct required laboratory tests, such as tensile, CVN, DWTT, bending, and hardness, to verify that products conform to requirements, and for product and process development.
  • Conduct metallographic analysis to investigate microstructures of finished products for use in alloy optimization and process development.
  • Conduct failure analyses and root cause investigations of any quality issues related to product development.
  • Write technical reports to document research work and findings from metallurgical investigations.
  • Maintain knowledge of and conform to all environmental and safety laws and regulations.
  • Use engineering computer software, such as AutoCAD software.
  • Support department projects.
Minimum Qualifications

A Bachelor's degree and at least 3 years of experience from which comparable knowledge and skills can be acquired is necessary

Licensure may be required

Preferred Qualifications

Possess a Master's degree or PhD in Metallurgical Engineering or Materials Science and Engineering with experience in process, quality, or physical metallurgy.

At least three years of experience in the steel industry, particularly in relation to steel making, casting, and thermo-mechanical deformation of steel.

Anticipated Hiring Range

The anticipated hiring range for this position has been established as $68,200-$128,430 annually.

Salary is determined by a variety of factors, including but not limited to, the individual's particular combination of education, skills, and experience, as well as organizational requirements.
