The Registered Respiratory Therapist renders therapeutic and diagnostic Cardiopulmonary care services to patients including infants, children, adolescents, and adults (including geriatrics).

Responsibilities of this position include:

  • Performs basic cardiopulmonary care and diagnostic procedures including medical gas therapy, humidity and aerosol therapy, bronchial hygiene, hyper-expansion, and invasive and non-invasive ventilation.
  • Responds to emergency codes, responsible for maintaining patent airway during emergency treatment.
  • Performs diagnostic procedures including arterial blood gases, pulse oximetry or pulmonary function testing and sleep testing to determine a patient's cardiopulmonary health.
  • Performs cardiopulmonary drug therapy.
  • Explains and instructs patients on tests performed, therapies administered and breathing and relaxation techniques.
  • Assists in discharge planning of patient and instruction of respiratory care devices.
  • Confirms that equipment is available, in good working order and ready for immediate use.

  • Associates Degree
  • Graduate of accredited 2-year program in respiratory care
  • NRP certification required within 6 months of hire
