Job Summary
Maintenance Mechanics are responsible for general repairs and maintenance of building(s) and equipment. Maintenance Mechanics perform preventative and repair maintenance to keep all buildings and equipment in good operating condition. A variety of skilled and semi-skilled maintenance duties are performed to carry out the essential functions of this position, and mechanics should be trained and qualified in one or more skilled craft areas.

Job Summary

A variety of skilled and semi-skilled maintenance duties are performed to carry out the essential functions of this position, and mechanics should be trained and qualified in one or more skilled craft areas.
- Performs general repairs such as installing drywall, patching holes, and painting. Installs vinyl tile, repairs ceramic tile floors, replaces carpet tiles and other flooring materials. Performs other tasks as requested as furniture placement and fixing, ceiling replacement, loading of material and equipment. Performs routine basic inspection of the facilities areas. Communicates with students regarding entry into occupied rooms as needed.
- Maintains the work area is cleaned and organized after each assignment has been completed.
- Communicates material needs to supervisor and warehouse clerk regularly. Reports life/safety and other important maintenance concerns to the superintendent or direct supervisor.
- Performs general repairs and executes preventative maintenance. Adjusts functional parts of devices and control instruments, using hand tools, plumbing tools, and straightedges. Repairs or replaces defective parts using hand tools and power tools. Performs manual labor such as moving furniture and unloading materials.
- Performs basic plumbing repairs and maintenance such as adjust faucets, replace shower heads, repair flush valves, and other minor plumbing repair tasks.
- Performs minor electrical repairs such as replacing light switches, fuses, install breakers, and other basic electrical work.
- Performs preventative maintenance as required such as changing filters and belts, cleaning coils, inspecting equipment, etc.
- Participates in Health and Safety inspections and communicates problematic units to the Assistant Director. Conducts monthly inspections and reports inspection findings to the Assistant Director.
- Performs other related duties as required or as directed to support the overall maintenance of Housing-Facilities. The omissions of specific duties does not preclude the supervisor from assigning duties that are logically related to the position.
- Performs essential duties in any emergencies such as hurricanes, public health emergencies, and/or any other university emergency closing. The employee is expected to be available to report to work as needed during university emergency closing with appropriate notification of a department administrator.
- Completion of an approved apprenticeship program for mechanical trades or a high school diploma and three (3) years of appropriate experience.

- Minimum of three (3) years experience in building construction, maintenance, and repair work.
