The Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry at East Stroudsburg University of Pennsylvania invites applications for a full-time, Visiting Professor of Chemistry and Biochemistry. Located in the beautiful Pocono Mountains of Pennsylvania, ESU's proximity to New York City and Philadelphia provides convenient access to professional markets, careers, and social activities. Just minutes from campus are the country's largest water parks, scenic Delaware Water Gap Recreation Area, Appalachian Trail, and other opportunities for recreational fun.

East Stroudsburg University (ESU) invites applications for a one-year visiting Assistant Professor of Chemistry and Biochemistry, specialty physical chemistry, beginning in August, 2024. Responsibilities will include teaching general chemistry and physical chemistry and associated laboratories. Teaching responsibilities may also include general education chemistry. The successful candidate will demonstrate effective teaching and enthusiasm for mentoring a diverse population of undergraduates. A Ph.D. in Chemistry, Biochemistry or a closely related field must be completed prior to appointment; but highly qualified candidates with ABD status at the time of application will be considered. Authoritative documentation supporting timely completion of the Ph.D. must be provided for ABD candidates.

The ESU Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry programs are accredited by the American Chemical Society (ACS) and the American Society for Biochemistry and Molecular Biology (ASBMB). The department is housed in the Hoeffner Science and Technology center populating 13 dedicated teaching and research laboratories and a cold room, in addition to modern faculty offices. The department maintains an impressive suite of instrumentation highlighted by a Bruker 400Mhz NMR, Agilent LC/Q-TOF Mass Spec, GC/MS, GC, Eclipse Fluorescence Spec and HPLC. A Perkin Elmer AAS, NexION ICP-MS, Thermo Nicolet FTIR and a Kodak gel imaging system complement a host of other instrumentation including several UV/Vis Specs and centrifuges. Required Qualifications:
  • A Ph.D. in Chemistry or Biochemistry must be completed prior to appointment.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Specialty in physical chemistry; previous experience or clearly demonstrated potential to teach physical chemistry is necessary.
  • Demonstrated experience or potential to teach general chemistry is valued.
  • The successful candidate will be a skillful educator with defined preparation and clearly articulated professional goals, who demonstrates the ability to effectively apply the necessary skillset (including classroom technologies), flexibility and dedication to teach courses at a broad range of levels, experience or willingness to work with varied class-sizes and a dedication to working with students of diverse backgrounds.
