The Department of Biological Sciences at East Stroudsburg University of Pennsylvania invites applications for a full-time, Tenure-Track Assistant/Associate Professor in Biology, with a specialty in Animal Physiology. East Stroudsburg University is a small, primarily undergraduate university in the Pocono Mountains of Pennsylvania. The university is located near the Delaware Water Gap National Recreation Area, Cherry Valley Wildlife Refuge, Tannersville Cranberry Bog, and many other natural areas. Several major metropolitan areas including Philadelphia, New York City, and Allentown are located within less than a 1.5-hour drive. The Department of Biological Sciences offers a quality education with a breadth of courses and opportunities for students to gain laboratory and field experience. Students may earn a B.S. in Biology, Biotechnology, Environmental Studies, Marine Science, or Medical Technology. Concentrations within the B.S. in Biology include pre-professional programs to prepare students for careers in the health professions and a biology secondary education program leading to teacher certification. In addition, the department offers an M.S. in Biology.

Responsibilities

The successful candidate must be a vertebrate physiologist with the appropriate expertise to teach an undergraduate course in Animal Physiology with emphasis on experimental design and data analysis. Additional teaching responsibilities will include laboratories and/or lectures in Introductory Biology, and Human Anatomy and Physiology, as needed. Additionally, the successful candidate will have the opportunity to develop upper-level courses in their area of expertise. The teaching course load is 24 semester-hours per academic year, with additional responsibility for advising undergraduates.

The candidate is expected to develop a strong research program in vertebrate physiology involving undergraduate and graduate students. In addition, candidates will be expected to participate in the M.S. program in biology by teaching courses, mentoring research projects, and serving on graduate student committees.

The successful candidate will be expected to demonstrate excellence in teaching and scholarship, and a commitment to undergraduate and graduate education. Service at the departmental and university level will also be required. Additionally, the candidate should possess excellent communication and interpersonal skills required to work effectively with students and colleagues. Qualifications
  • Ph.D. in Biological Sciences, with research expertise in Vertebrate Physiology and ongoing scholarly work in the field.
  • College teaching experience is required, with a demonstrated ability to teach Animal Physiology.
  • A strong commitment to undergraduate and graduate education, and dedication to working with diverse student populations is required.
  • Employment with ESU is contingent on the selected candidate passing a thorough background check that includes: FBI fingerprinting, PA Child Abuse, and employment/degree verifications.
