GENERAL SUMMARY:
It is the responsibility of the Teacher Assistant to assist in the day-to-day operations of programs for a specific group of children providing a high quality environment in which each child achieves the highest level of social, emotional, physical and intellectual competence.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
• Planning and implementing learning experiences that advance the intellectual and physical development of children Assures the welfare, health, and safety of the children in the groups
• Organizes and maintains classroom activity areas, materials, supplies, and playground activities
• Keeps the director advised of equipment and materials that need to be repaired and/or replaced
• Maintains constant supervision of the children
• Takes daily attendance
• Trains and makes the most constructive use of teacher assistant, intern, practicum students, and work-study students
• Establishes and maintains effective communication with parents
• Attends in-service training as required
• Understanding of NC Child Care laws
• Keeps the director informed of any classroom problems or concerns
• Establishing and maintaining a safe, healthy learning environment
• Perform other duties as assigned
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
• Knowledge of Early Childhood Development/ Child Development
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to work within a diverse community
• Ability to work independently
• Skilled in the use of Educational Technology
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
• Minimum: AA in field or AA out of field with 18 semester hours in ECE/CD ECE semester hours and any BA/BS degree accepted
• Prefer a minimum of 6 months experience working with children
• Certified in CPR & First Aide
• Current Criminal Background Check
• Valid North Carolina driver's license preferred
• TB Screening or Test Results
